Concept of the Workshop

The workshop will include a series of oral presentations, a poster session, a few invited lectures and focus groups. After the initial registration the participants will be asked to submit the abstracts of their posters or speeches (until 5 September). All the abstracts within the scope of the topic of the meeting will be published and circulated among the participants. Due to time constraints WE MAY NOT be able to allocate everyone space for a seprate oral presentation as we want to focus more on discussion of topics proposed by the participants. If you have any specific ideas - please contact us!

History

The first Eastern European Ethnobiology workshop workshop was organized in October 2010, in Padise, Estonia by Renata Sõukand. This was a starting point for a very fruitful cooperation between ethnobiologists from eastern Europe.
The second  EEE Workshop took place in October 2011, in Királyrét, Hungary, organized by Zsolt Molnar and Anna Varga.
This is the third event of this kind. We hope that ethnobiology seminars focused on eastern Europe will be organized bi-annually from now on in various countries.

Date, Deadlines and Payments

WORKSHOP DATES

10th to 12th October 2013 with arrival on 9th of October (afternoon/evening) and leaving on 13 October (after breakfast)

We decided to not organize th post-workshop excursion to the Beskid Niski Mountains due to few people interested in it.

The meeting we are organizing is not a regular conference but a field seminar. We are limited by the number of places. We also want to preserve the intimate atmosphere of a small meeting. That is why  participation will be on a first registered, first served basis.

The workshop is open primarily to researchers who either have studied or are seriously planning to study the ethnobiology of eastern European countries (understood as former European Communist countries including all the former USSR states, as well as the states of ex-Yugoslavia).

If you are an ethnbobiologist who does not do/plan research in this area you can still register but please wait with payment until we can see that there are places available.

Early bird registration fee (200 euro) until 1 July

Late registration (230 euro) after 1 July 2013, final payment and abstract submission date: 15th of September

The fee includes the conference fee, abstract publication and full board from the evening of 9 October to the breakfast of 13 October

The invoices will be issued by the ETNOBOTANIKA company

See REGISTRATION AND PAYMENTS for details

Abstract submisson until 31 August 2013.

Location and How to Get There

Location

The workshop will be located in south-central Poland, in a small workshop center in Kików near Busko Zdrój, about 100 km NE from Krakow and ca. 250 km south from Warsaw.

The accommodation standard will be similar to the previous workshops with simple 2-4 person rooms plus one large 9 person room in the attic. This time we are going to have a separate dining room and a large octagonal room for the presentations and discussions.

The workshop center is located on top of former gypsum quarries surrounded by xerothermic grasslands and rocks, around 2 km NW from the village of Kików.

How to get there

We will organize free pick-up from the neighbouring towns (Busko-Zdrój and Solec-Zdrój) located ca. 10 km from the workshop place.
There are a few buses a day from Warsaw Central Bus Station to Busko-Zdrój and from Kraków Central Bus Station to Busko-Zdrój and Solec-Zdrój. Plus there are some mini-bus lines - we will try to get hold of all the timetables.
If you have a choice between flying to Krakow or Warsaw, choose Krakow as the journey is 2.5 times shorter (2 hrs versus nearly 5 hours on the bus).
